Join me for a cozy night in the kitchen as we make two Old World classics: Lithuanian-style cabbage rolls and potato kugelis.

Cabbage rolls—whether you grew up calling them golumpki, balandeliai, pigs in a blanket, holipches, huluptzes, prokes, holishkis, or something entirely different—are one of those dishes that everyone’s grandma claims to make the best. But let’s be honest…my mom’s Lithuanian recipe reigns supreme. (Biased? Absolutely.)

We’ll also tackle kugelis: a potato casserole baked with bacon and onions until the edges turn golden, crispy, and irresistible. Traditionally served with sour cream, ketchup, or applesauce, it’s humble, hearty, and always everyone’s favorite dish on the holiday table.

Together, we’ll cook the traditional recipes exactly as they’ve been passed down in my family, then talk about easy ways to elevate them for entertaining. These dishes are perfect for Thanksgiving week—ideal comfort food to serve when family and friends roll into town.

Lithuanian Klatsky Workshop
A Hands-On Cooking Class

In this workshop, we’ll roll up our sleeves and dive into an heirloom recipe for klatskys, Lithuanian dumplings that have been passed down through generations of my family. Think Polish Pierogi (but, dare I say…better!).

I’m proud to be the first in my family to test, teach, and share this tradition. My mom mastered the recipe after learning it directly from my great-grandma Helen—the legendary master dough-roller—and now I’m bringing it to you.

Each group will mix, roll, fill, crimp, boil, and butter their own batch of klatskys, working together like a true family kitchen. We’ll use my family’s favorite filling—farmers cheese with sautéed onions—simple, rich, and deeply comforting.

During class, we’ll enjoy klatskys I’ve prepared ahead of time along with a few other Lithuanian sweets and delicacies. Your freshly made dumplings will be packed up to take home—ready to share with your family or tuck into the freezer for the holidays.

Come and cook your way into a Lithuanian tradition that has brought my family together for decades.
